August

8/30/08 August was one of the better months for music we have ever had and I wish I had kept up with this blog and reviewed them all in greater detail. As I mentioned I will add to this writeup as I have time, which seems to be at a premium right now..
But I spent the whole month of August recovering from our California trip and didn't blog at all. There was just too much going on. Go to September for a brief update of August events I haven't covered.

8/23/08 Bruce Jones a Birmingham folk singer came on the 23rd. This was a really good show, but not well attended which was too bad, this was something to hear. I hope Bruce will come back. He performed a great variety of music in his great finger picking folk style and wonderfully deep voice. He started with Jimmy Buffet's Hurricane and closed with Seven Spanish Angels. In between was stuff by the Marshall Tucker Band "Heard It In a Love Song", Hard Times come Again No More" by Stephen Foster,Folsom Prison Blues, Deep Ellum Blues, Bury Me Beneath the Willow, even Alabama's "High Cotton" and "Bottle of Wine" and "Made of Sand" by Tim Paxton. Dear Abby by John Prine, German and Dutch folk songs, Bob Dillon's "Follow Me Down", "Under the Boardwalk" and many more. It was a great show and I hope he comes back again.
