January

I hoping to keep this blog active in 2009, I've been slipping ever since I got back from California last August.

1/31/09 The Sullivans,a Celtic group, were supposed to perform tonight, but they backed out due to illness and scheduling problems. They hope to return around St Patrick's Day which would be great. So I asked several regulars to play instead. John Lott, James Taylor, David Brazeel, Danny Haynes and I each did 1/2 hour. It turned out great and we all had a really good time. I'll need to do more of that..

1/28 Here is a short update on our trip to California. Gerri and I flew into San Francisco on the 10th, took the Bart into SF, checked into our hotel and met my brother Andy and his wife Brenda (from Australia, they had just gotten in earlier that day) at the China Town gate at five and went to eat at our favorite Thai restaurant. Then we all went to our hotels to sack out and met for breakfast bright and early. We walked to North Beach (the Italian section of SF) and ate in Cafe Greco. a Coffee House. Then Andy and I took the Bart back to SF airport and picked up the car I had rented while the ladies shopped. We picked them up and drove the 90 miles to my Mom's house in Modesto.

During the next week five of our kids and families (Erin, Michael, Todd, Kristy, and Sean flew in as did one of Andy's kids (Jon and hsi wifw Emma Emma, you might remember them, they came here and spent a week with us and visited the coffee house on many occasions two years ago. Andy also came after they left as did his daughter Cat). My sister Sue and her husband and son Tim and wife drove in. We had 25 fimily members there for a week. It was great. Michael and Todd brought their kids so my Mom had 4 great grandkids there. We spent most of the time at home with Mom, but did make side trips to Yosemite and the Calavaras Big Trees State park (giant sequoias) both not far away from Mom's house). Most of the kids flew into San Jose so I had to go and pick them up and drop them off (1 1/2 hours away). It was a great time. Then Andy, Brenda, Gerri and I went back to SF, spent some time there together and flew home. I got to visit 15 coffee houses while I was there, and I am proud of ours.

1/24/09 Gerri and I got off the airplane after around 5 PM after two weeks in California for my Mom's 90th birthday (I'll write more about that later). Erin picked us up at the Birmingham airport and took us home. Then I headed straight to the Coffee House to catch as much as I could of WP Smith and Dennis Kaylor's concert. I got there around 8 and Dennis was walking off the stage., so I only got to hear WP This was to be a humor concert, Dennis has some really humorous songs and as it turned out so does WP. It was a good night. We had a good house. It was good to be back.
