What a show...probably the best we have ever had here!!! David played for 2 hours and was in the grove the whole time. Great guitar work, best I have heard in a long while. Great vocals and songwriting complemented his masterful guitar work. He played a great mix (or mixture), really something for everyone: folk, rock, country, deadhead-it was wonderful. He is a master of the loop and can crank out the sounds with seemingly not much effort and so smoothly it wasn't apparant what he was doing. David may be the greatest source of Grateful Dead information on the planet today, he is host of the syndicated The Grateful Dead Hour on radio and has written numberous articles and books about the Dead and his music is right there. He calls himself the Redneck Hippie and the Honkey Tonk Hippie, but his stuff transcends that label. And to top it off he is really a nice guy. Look for his album The Ones That Look The Weirdest Taste The Best. The cover song, Bounty of the County, written by him and his wife, is about eating food from local farmers markets, often finding weird looking food that is healthier and tastes better than storebought. David and his wife are advocates of healthy eating as are we. He performed enough Grateful Dead tunes to keep the Deadheads happy, but this was about David Gans and it was exceptional, even awesome at times. He says he will come back next year on his way to Magnoliafest, we hope so. Thanks to Jimmy Well for coordinating this concert, it was sucessful beyond what any of us thought it would be: we had an enthusiastic overflow crowd on a Tuesday night!! Nuff said.
